Dietary Reference Values (DRVs) for the United Kingdom
When assessing a clients' vitamins and mineral needs (nutrient requirements) and later creating their meal plans and dietary recommendations is essential in order to create a personalized diet with meal planning and recipes which meet your clients' needs.
For the UK specifically Dietary Reference Values for vitamins and minerals were recommended by the Scientific Advisory Committee on Nutrition (SACN) as the gold standard for nutritional assessment in the nutrition and dietetics fields.

What are Dietary Reference Values
According to the former Committee on Medical Aspects of Food and Nutrition Policy (COMA) and now Scientific Advisory Committee on Nutrition (SACN) Dietary Reference Values (DRV) are used to cover the population requirements and have included a range of nutrient values:
- EAR - Estimated Average Requirements of a group of people for energy or protein or vitamins or mineral. About half will usually need more than the EAR, and half less.
- LRNI - Lower Reference Nutrient Intake for protein or vitamin or mineral. An amount of the nutrient that is enough for only a few people in a group who have low needs.
- RNI - Reference Nutrient Intake for protein or a vitamin or mineral. An amount of the nutrient that is is enough, or more than enough, for about 97% of people in a group. If the average intake of a group is at RNI, then the risk of deficiency in the group is very small.
These values were developed to assess the populations' requirements, even though this information can be assumed to calculate individual requirements.

DRVs for fibre intake
In 2015 the Scientific Advisory Committee on Nutrition (SACN) updated their recommendations on fibre intake for the UK population.
Since there is strong evidence that dietary fibre is associated with lower risk of diseases and promotes general wellbeing, it became crucial that nutrition professionals take its consumption into account when giving dietary recommendations.

Analysis, you can see the adequacy of your meal plan according to that client's requirements, depending on their age group and gender.
When putting together a meal plan the software calculates nutrients and minerals according to its foods' nutrient composition. Those values can be compared to their percentage of the Reference Nutrient Intake.
Planning section, you can quickly check what are the DRV for fibre intake for that client, according to the SACN recommendations and also customise it if needed in that case.
