Nutrium is adapted for sports nutrition counseling

Now you will be able to calculate the BMR through ten Haaf et al. equations, make the sum of skinfolds and plan different nutritional recommendations for different days.

Before we go into the details, here is a summary of what we added to help you with sports nutrition counseling:

  1. ten Haaf equations in the Planning section, so you can calculate the Basal Metabolic Rate through weight and fat-free mass;
  2. Different planning of calories and macro distribution for each dayin the Planning section. It allows you to plan different meal plans for several days, and assign a different PAL (Physical Activity Level);
  3. 5 and 8 skinfold sum, in the Measurements section. It automatically sums the preset skinfolds number.
  4. How to calculate physical activity using METs.

ten Haaf et al. equations for BMR

ten Haaf et al. equations were the result of a study developed from the assessment of 90 athletes (18-35 years old), who exercised, on average, 9 hours per week, 4 to 6 days a week.

The goal of this study was to create and validate new predictive equations to calculate the Basal Metabolic Rate through weight and fat-free mass in recreational athletes.

This study showed that the new fat-free mass based equations provided the best prediction of BMR in recreational athletes.

For this reason, we decided to include them in the Planning section, and you are now can use them when calculating energetic needs.

Every time you set the client's PAL as active or very active, these will be the equations that will show by default.

Skinfold sum to monitor nutritional progress

The thickness of the skinfolds describe the amount of subcutaneous fat, and it is a simple method to estimate body composition.

The sum of the thickness of these skinfolds (usually from eight places in the ISAK protocol) provides comparison data with population standards. It is also useful to keep track of changes of the same individual over time.

5 skinfolds

Skinfolds included in this sum are biceps, triceps, subscapular, iliac crest and thigh skinfolds.

8 skinfolds

Skinfolds included in this sum are biceps, triceps, subscapular, iliac crest, supraspinale, abdominal, thigh, and calf skinfolds.

Plan different energy requirements for different days

Planning day by day will allow you to create different energy targets for different days, for example, for training days and rest days.

You just need to click on the + shown in the image and can create different plannings of energetic needs for your patient. You can then give them a name of your choice.

The different plannings will always be associated with different versions of the meal plan, in the Meals section.

We changed the Physical Activity Levels (PAL) from 5 to 4 levels to be in line with the Food and Nutrition Board source.
