Have you tried to lose weight but fallen at the first hurdle?
Maybe you've lost weight successfully in the past but for whatever reason now you just can't seem to get back into the groove?
If it feels like I'm reading your mind right now, I'm not, it's just that this scenario is extremely common.
Very often when we think back to successful past dieting attempts we replay the glory days in our mind. By glory days, I mean the part of dieting where your routine was nailed, motivation was high and keeping your food on track felt easy.. and as a result of this, you were seeing results.
By replaying these glory days we forget about the reality of actually getting going again (i.e. we forget about the shitty bit at the start). We give ourselves a hard time for not being motivated like we once were, for not seeing rapid results and for finding things difficult.. completely forgetting that it wasn't easy at the start last time either.
For most people, it takes around 2-3 weeks to get into a dieting groove. If you can get those off the ground, you're well on your way.. but during those first couple of weeks you have to get out of your own way and get past your own set of negative thoughts:
"Ah man I just want some sugar"
"Why aren't the scales moving!?"
"Sod it - I'll have the weekend off and start again next week"
Without experience or a sensible plan of action, navigating the first couple of weeks can be tough.
This is one of the reasons people see more success when trying to lose weight with a coach. They have someone to keep them accountable, break it down and remove the guesswork in those initial tricky weeks.
If you're struggling to get your weight loss off the ground, remember, motivation comes from results and results come from sticking to something!
