Okay, I know it's Silly Season and December and all, and healthy eating and exercise is suddenly treated like a brother serving time in jail for stealing lipstick in Edgars. Mind you, just by looking at my shopping list for our camping holiday made me gain a few kilograms already. So I understand the psychology behind it all. Come Christmas and we will eat until eventually passing out on the bed in a flurry of cold sweat dreaming of monsters jumping out of puddings while cursing ourselves for finishing the Eno's on the 23rd already. Maybe it's not that bad, but almost. 

I don't want to be the oddball cousin who was invited for the holidays only because he's family (and because grandma said so), but just hear me out. While we are taking a well-deserved rest (for those fortunate enough to do so), most of our organs continue like it's just another day at the office. Some of them (like our digestive tract and kidneys) even changed to overdrive and suddenly finding themselves working overtime. And then there's the poor liver.....So while standing in the queue at the ice cream stand, spare a thought for all the things inside of us working so hard to keep us alive and conscious. 

Look, I'm not saying we need to eat perfectly, politically correct during this festive season, I'm just saying eat better than say, the previous December. Move more than the previous December, play more than the previous December, and yes, sleep more than the previous December. That is, of course, if you're not already one of those people (like me, I must admit), who can't seem to think of anything better to do at 6 in the morning than to go for a 10 kilometer run! If you're one of them, well done, but just remember, even our muscles need a rest now and then.

So to guide you through this lovely and hectic maze we call December, I will be posting some ideas on our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/Meerkatfit which will ultimately link back to this Blog, just to keep things rolling, the wheels turning and the systems moving.

And because it is the festive season and we are all humans after all, I'm going to leave you with this compromising info-graph (see below) to serve as a guiding light to sanity. Should you stick to the ratios so perfectly laid out in the graph, I'm pretty sure you'll emerge relatively healthy on the other side. Next year is next year so we'll take it from there when we get there.
