"The quality standard for nutrition support in adults requires that all care services take responsibility for the identification of people at risk of malnutrition and provide nutrition support for everyone who needs it."

Well, this makes sense, doesn't it?

Quality standards are designed in order to ensure patients and clients are receiving the optimum care that it is possible to provide.

You can expect a certain quality of care, for example, when you are being given wound care. The tecnique known as a ANTT (Asceptic Non Touch Technique) ensures the minimum opportunity is given for incorporating additional infection into your open wound, thereby keeping it asceptic (the opposite of septic = infection). A lot of training and research goes into ensuring this technique is understood and used by health care professionals, and around the world each country has its own set of standards to ensure it.

"Malnutrition can develop through a deficiency in dietary intake, from complications associated with illnesses causing poor absorption, such as Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis; nutrient losses; or as a consequence of increased nutritional requirements of a disease state."

Do you know what else can cause malnutrition? The various treatments we (health care professionals) provide in order to fight disease and illness.

From antibiotic use to immunology treatments to chemotherapy treatments and many other interventions performed, we often swap a severe issue for a less severe one.

In my opinion, the healthier you can be in regards to nutritional intake pre treatment the speedier your post treatment recovery will be.

Achieve your goals with a follow-up that suits you!
